Abigail Young Churchill is a Mi’kmaw woman from Three Rivers on the beautiful west coast of NL. Abigail began her artistic journey as a young girl creating traditional arts and crafts. Since 2018, Abigail has been specializing in wild game leather work. Using her hands as her tools, Abigail is inspired by the land and the beauty of her surroundings. Her creation’s raw and rugged features are representative of the materials she uses to craft them. Her business receives regular custom orders and she has been a regular participant in craft sales along the powwow trail. In addition to her artwork, Abigail is particularly inspired by the youth and finds her true passion in sharing her knowledge through art and craft classes in her community. By transferring her skills, she empowers others to gain awareness and pride in their Indigenous culture. Through her love of mentorship, Abigail is contributing to a strong, resilient future for Mi’kmaw youth.
