MEET THE ARTISAN

JENNIFER LOWE

Business Name: Jenny Beadz

Jennifer Lowe is a mixed indigenous woman from Mekap’sk Ktaqmkuk (Northern Peninsula, NL) who currently lives in Port Saunders with her husband and three children.

Jennifer learned to bead at the Friendship Centre in Halifax, NS as part of an urban Indigenous women’s group called Women are the Medicine. She also learned beading from Grandmother Marilyn Francis, who was an inspiration to Jennifer, using her beading skills to support herself and her family. Jennifer says beading has been in her family forever and nothing, not one scrap of thread or bead, is ever wasted.  While beading is her business, it is also her therapy. Jennifer is happy to have repeat buyers for her work.
