Karen White, a Mi’kmaw woman from western Newfoundland, learned the basics of crafting from her husband and began making seed bead jewellery several years ago. Karen really enjoys creating and altering patterns for brooches. Her different designs have expanded into earrings and other types of jewellery. Karen enjoys the many small contracts she has received and she has sold many types of earrings everywhere. Although conceived as a retirement business, the demand for Karen’s jewellery is increasing and her business has grown, especially in the last year. Karen is particularly proud of the dragonfly brooches she made for the empowerment boxes for Dragon Fly Moon and her Orange Shirt pin design.
