MEET THE ARTISAN
MONIKA RUMBOLT
Business Name: Putlavimiut Studio
Monika Rumbolt is an Inuk, multi-disciplinary artist who uses her sacred teachings to keep her culture relevant in her work. As a young child, Monika developed a passion for creating art that represents her love of the land. To keep her work authentic and grounded, she uses natural materials such as furs, sea grass, labradorite, and handcrafted paint from dried flowers and berries. Monika now spends her days in western Labrador with her spouse and little girl Abigail. Her business, Putlavimiut Studio, provides land-based experiences and teachings from the region to those who wish to learn more about the Indigenous peoples of Labrador. Monika’s work is displayed from Hay River NWT to Sydney Australia. Her most remarkable works sit in the Human Rights Museum in Manitoba as a dedication to her mother’s struggles in a broken system and the MMIGW movement.
